Adam Smith is generally considered the father of political economy, and between Smith and the marginal revolution it is traditionally believed that there was a linear progression in the science of economics. Schumpeter’s History of Economic Analysis suggested otherwise, and since then there has been a wealth of revisionism looking to correct economists’ view on the Smithian movement.
